Ration books came in three colors: tan for adults; green for pregnant or nursing women, and children 4 and under; and blue for children 5\u00a0to 16 years old. \u00a0The ration book color scheme insured that each person got the right amount of food for their age or health condition.<\/p>\n<p>Once the family&#8217;s ration books were issued,\u00a0it was required that the household had to\u00a0register with their local stores: the butcher for meat and the\u00a0grocer for general foodstuffs.
