By 1943, typical rations for one adult for one week included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2\u00a0pints of milk<\/li>\n<li>4 oz \u00a0meat (chicken and fish were not rationed, but availability could \u00a0be scare)<\/li>\n<li>2 oz butter<\/li>\n<li>1 fresh egg per\u00a0week or 1 packet of dried eggs (equivalent\u00a0to 12 fresh eggs) every\u00a08 weeks<\/li>\n<li>2 oz butter<\/li>\n<li>4 oz of jam (usually one jar per month)<\/li>\n<li>2 oz of cooking fat (lard or suet)<\/li>\n<li>4 oz cheese<\/li>\n<li>4 oz\u00a0or about three\u00a0&#8220;rashers&#8221; of bacon<\/li>\n<li>2 oz\u00a0of leaf tea<\/li>\n<li>8 oz sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thewartimekitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/rationing1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-56\" src=\"https:\/\/thewartimekitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/rationing1-300x185.jpg\" alt=\"rationing\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thewartimekitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/rationing1-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thewartimekitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/rationing1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fruits and vegetable weren&#8217;t rationed, but a person was usually limited to about two lbs per week. What one could get from the grocer also depended on what was available.
