Hello Friends!
Welcome to thewartimekitchen.com! I have always been interested about many aspects of World War II in Britain. Prior to the beginning of the war in 1939, Britain imported tens of millions of pounds of foodstuffs. With shipping lanes and supplies cut off due to enemy attacks, rationing began in Britain in January, 1940. By rationing food, the British government’s Ministry of Food would make sure that all Britons got their fair share. With its introduction, rationing created a new culture of cooking and eating. I hope you enjoy this journey with me as we look at recipes, eating, household hints, and “making-do” in the wartime kitchen.
